The Moto Guzzi Nuovo Falcone is a motorcycle that the Italian company Moto Guzzi produced from 1971 to 1976. "Nuovo Falcone" means "New Falcon" in German.
history
At the end of 1969 Moto Guzzi again presented a motorcycle with a single cylinder engine developed at the suggestion of the Italian police. Two years later the civilian model Nuovo Falcone was available in Italy.
In 1974 a touring variant for bad roads with a partially covered engine and burnished instead of chrome-plated silencers appeared under the name Nuovo Falcone Sahara . In 1976 production of the Nuovo Falcone was discontinued due to a lack of customer interest without a successor.
technology
Engine and drive
The Nuovo Falcone has an air-cooled single - cylinder four-stroke engine with a horizontal cylinder. The flywheel is located on the left stump of the double-bearing crankshaft , which (in contrast to the previous Falcone model) runs inside the housing. A spur gear attached behind it drives the basket of the multi-plate oil bath clutch mounted on the transmission input shaft. The helical four-speed gearbox can be operated with a rocker switch on the right-hand side of the engine; the first course is at the top. The transmission is connected to the rear wheel by a roller chain.
The two hanging valves are controlled by the camshaft below via bumpers and rocker arms . The battery ignition (battery: 12 V) consists of an ignition coil installed under the tank and an interrupter contact on the right-hand side of the engine at the end of the camshaft.
The mixture preparation is done by a flat slide carburetor with an air filter. The air passage is 29 mm. The chrome-plated exhaust pipe is pulled back on the right side of the machine and ends in two V-shaped superimposed silencers in the shape of a bag (Nuovo Falcone Sahara: burnished, parallel stacked silencers in the shape of a cigar, later versions similar to the Nuovo Falcone, but not burnished).
Frame and chassis
The Nuovo Falcone has a double-loop tubular frame with a tail boom. The rear swing arm has two suspension struts that are supported on the tail boom. In contrast to the old Falcone, the front wheel sits in a conventional fork.
tank
The fuel tank of the Nuovo Falcone has a volume of 18 liters.
Wheels and brakes
The 18 ″ wheels are wire-spoke wheels and have full-hub drum brakes . The rear brake is operated via a foot lever on the left side of the engine and a linkage, the front with a cable from the handlebars.
Materials
The engine / gearbox housing, the cylinder and the cylinder head are made of aluminum. The frame, the front fork, the tank, the mudguards and the rear swing arm are made of sheet steel.
Painting, surface treatment and emblems
In the first series, the frame including the rear swing arm is painted red and the telescopic fork and headlight are black. The tank and side cover as well as the mudguards are painted white. In the Sahara model, the frame is painted black and the sheet metal parts are sand-colored. In later series the fenders are chrome-plated; the frame is painted black and the sheet metal parts in different colors.
Authorities machines were painted olive green or dark blue as required.
On the sides of the tank there are Moto Guzzi emblems in different designs as decals. The type designations, also as decals, are attached to the side covers.
