The Mozart Boys 'Choir Vienna , originally the Mozart Boys' Choir, later Amadeus Boys 'Choir Vienna, is an Austrian boys' choir that is one of the most famous choirs in the country and is active both nationally and internationally.

history

In 1956, Erich Schwarzbauer founded the Mozart Choir Boys on the occasion of Mozart's 200th birthday. It should be an institution that enables the children - unlike the Vienna Boys' Choir - to live at home and attend the school of their choice. Even without boarding school, the weekly get-together and rehearsals should create a high-quality choir. With the death of the founder in 1995, the decision to discontinue the activities and thus ended the existence of the Mozart Choir Boys. Since the name could no longer be used for legal reasons, its artistic director at the time, Peter Lang , founded the “Amadeus Knabenchor Wien” together with some parents as a successor organization. In the year of the 250th birthday of its namesake, 2006, another name change was made: with the result that there is again a "Mozart Boys Choir" in Austria.

In the repertoire, the choir is naturally very close to classical music. But he also sees an obligation towards contemporary composers to make their works accessible to the public and thus to enrich their own repertoire.
