El Llano is the name of one of the eleven Municipios of the Mexican state of Aguascalientes . The administrative seat and largest town of the municipality is Palo Alto . The municipality has 18,828 inhabitants (2010) and covers an area of 511.5 km².
geography
The municipality of El Llano is located in the east of the state of Aguascalientes at an altitude between 2000 m and 2500 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental . The municipality is located in the catchment area of the Río Lerma and thus drains into the Pacific . The geology of the municipality consists of 49.6% alluvion , 36.8% sedimentary rock and 13.6% extrusive rock ; Soil type of 32.3% of the municipality is the Durisol with 27.5% Regosol and 27.1% Phaeozem . About 70% of the community area is used for agriculture, about 25% as pasture land.
The municipality of El Llano borders the municipalities of Aguascalientes and Asientos as well as the state of Jalisco .

The 2010 census counted 18,828 people in 4154 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 25 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . About 5.7% of the population were illiterate. 5849 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 77% were men and approx. 6.6% were unemployed. Almost ten percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
