Tepezalá is the name of one of the eleven Municipios of the Mexican state of Aguascalientes . The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the eponymous Tepezalá . The municipality has 19,668 inhabitants (2010) and covers an area of ​​232.7 km².

geography

The municipality of Tepezalá is located in the northeast of the state of Aguascalientes at an altitude between 1900  m and 2600  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Mesa del Centro . The municipality is located in the catchment area of ​​the Río Lerma and thus drains into the Pacific . The geology of the municipality is composed of 61% alluvion , 20% mica schist , 12% sedimentary rock and 7% rhyolite tuff ; Soil type of 55% of the municipality is the Durisol with 29% Leptosol and 13% Calcisol . About 60% of the community area is used for arable farming, 28% is covered by shrubland, and about 12% is pasture land.

The municipality of Tepezalá borders the municipalities Rincón de Romos , Asientos and Pabellón de Arteaga, as well as the state of Zacatecas .

In the 2010 census, 19,668 people were counted in 4,446 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 49 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . About 5.9% of the population were illiterate. 6,413 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 78% were men and approx. 10.3% were unemployed. A good six percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
