Cosío is the name of the smallest of the eleven municipalities in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes . The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the eponymous Cosío . The municipality has 15,042 inhabitants (2010) and covers an area of 130.1 km².
geography
The Municipio Cosío is located in the extreme north of the state of Aguascalientes at an altitude between 1900 m and 2400 m . About 70% of the community area belong to the physiographic province of the Mesa del Centro , the rest to the Sierra Madre Occidental . The municipality is located in the catchment area of the Río Lerma and thus drains into the Pacific . The geology of the municipality is composed of 67% alluvion , 30% rhyolite tuff and 1% conglomerate ; Soil type of 57% of the municipality is the Durisol with 22% Leptosol and 15% Regosol . Over 70% of the area of the municipality is used for agriculture, a good quarter as pastureland.
The Municipio Cosío borders the Municipio Rincón de Romos and the State of Zacatecas .

The 2010 census counted 15,042 people in 3,465 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 17 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . About 4.3% of the population were illiterate. 4,819 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 76% were men and approx. 8.5% were unemployed. 4.8% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
