Jesús María is one of the eleven municipalities in the Mexican state of Aguascalientes . The administrative seat and largest city of the municipality is the city of the same name, Jesús María . The municipality has almost 100,000 inhabitants and covers an area of 509.4 km².

The Municipio Jesús María is centrally located in the state of Aguascalientes in the Zona Metropolitana de Aguascalientes at an altitude between 1900 m and 2600 m . 77% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental and 21% to the Mesa del Centro . The municipality is located in the catchment area of the Río Lerma thus drains into the Pacific . The geology of the municipality consists of 55% rhyolite tuff , 27% sandstone and 15% alluvion . The predominant soil types are the Phaeozem (54%) and Leptosol (34%). About 34% of the community area is used as pastureland, 32% is used for arable farming, and 30% is forested.
The municipality of Jesús María borders the municipalities of San José de Gracia , Pabellón de Arteaga , San Francisco de los Romo , Aguascalientes and Calvillo .

In the 2010 census, 99,590 people in 22,806 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 179 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 28 speakers of the Mazahua and 20 speakers of the Nahuatl . About 3.7% of the population were illiterate. 39,315 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 66% were men or 4.9% were unemployed. A good six percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
