Calvillo is the name of one of the eleven Municipios of the Mexican state of Aguascalientes . The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is the eponymous Calvillo . The municipality has 54,136 inhabitants (2010) and covers an area of 935.2 km².
geography
The municipality of Calvillo is located in the far west of the state of Aguascalientes at an altitude between 1500 m and 2900 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental . The municipality is located in the catchment area of the Río Lerma and thus drains into the Pacific . The geology of the municipality consists of 77% rhyolite tuff , 20% sedimentary rock and 3% alluvion ; Soil type of 31% of the municipality is the Phaeozem with 26% Leptosol and 18% Regosol . More than 60% of the community area is forested, around 24% are used for arable farming and around 13% as pasture land.
The municipality of Calvillo borders the municipalities of San José de Gracia , Jesús María and Aguascalientes as well as the states of Jalisco and Zacatecas .

In the 2010 census, 54,136 people in 12,834 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 98 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 27 speakers of the Huichol language . About 6.2% of the population were illiterate. 19,310 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which around 71% were men and around 9.7% were unemployed. Over seven percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
