Playas de Rosarito is a municipality in the Mexican state of Baja California with a good 90,000 inhabitants. The municipality extends over 500 km². The administrative seat and by far the largest city of the municipality is Playas de Rosarito (approx. 65,000 inhabitants).
geography
The Municipio Playas de Rosarito extends along a stretch of coast on the Pacific Ocean in the north of the state of Baja California. Located on until 700 m altitude, it is one entirely to the physiographic region of the peninsula Baja California and to hydrologic Region Baja California Noroeste . The geology is dominated by extrusive rocks , including basalt (32%) and andesitic tuff (25%), 21% of the municipality is occupied by sandstone. The predominant soil types are the Leptosol (64%) and the Vertisol (27%). 57% of the municipality is covered by undergrowth, around 17% are used for arable farming.
The municipality borders in the south with the municipality Ensenada , in the west with the Pacific Ocean and in the north and east with the municipality Tijuana .

According to the 2010 census, the municipality has 90,668 inhabitants in around 24,000 residential units. Of these, 997 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including around 275 speakers of Purépecha and 132 speakers each of Zapotec and Mixtec . About 2.8% of the population were illiterate. 37,526 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 67% were men and 5.6% were unemployed. 3.3% of the population lived in extreme poverty.

The Municipio Playas de Rosarito comprises 207 inhabited localidades , of which, in addition to the main town, Ampliación Ejido Plan Libertador and Primo Tapia are classified as urban by the INEGI .
