Solidaridad is a municipality in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo . The seat of the municipality and its largest town is Playa del Carmen . The community had 159,310 inhabitants in 2010, its area is 2121.5 km². The municipality was split off from the municipality of Cozumel in 1993 , in 2007 some places previously located in the state of Yucatán were added to Solidaridad , and in 2008 the municipality of Tulum was spun off from Solidaridad.

The Municipio Solidaridad is located between sea level and 100 m in the physiographic province of the Yucatán peninsula , 98.6% of which is in its karst areas . Geologically, the municipality is dominated by limestone , the predominant soil type is the Leptosol . Over 96% of the municipality is occupied by rainforests.
The Municipio Solidaridad borders the Municipios Lázaro Cárdenas , Puerto Morelos , Cozumel and Tulum as well as the state of Yucatán .

According to the 2010 census, the municipality Solidaridad comprises 148 inhabited localidades ; the INEGI classifies the main town Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras as urban. In the 2010 census, eleven towns had a population of over 100.
