Tulum is a municipality in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo . The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality, founded in 2008, is the eponymous Tulum , not far from the archaeological site of the same name . The municipality has an area of 2024 km², the population at the 2010 census was 28,263.
geography
The municipality of Tulum is located between sea level and 100 m in the physiographic province of the Yucatán peninsula , 92.7% of which is in its karst areas . Geologically, the municipality is dominated by limestone , the predominant soil types are Leptosol and Phaeozem . About 90% of the municipality are occupied by rainforests.
The municipality of Tulum borders the municipalities Solidaridad , Cozumel and Felipe Carrillo Puerto as well as the state of Yucatán and the Caribbean .
