Murumamani (also: Muromamani ) is a town in the La Paz department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Murumamani is the third largest town in the canton of Warisata in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Achacachi in the province of Omasuyos . The village is located at an altitude of 4089  m on the southern edge of the Cordillera Muñecas , only seven kilometers as the crow flies from the " Gulf of Achacachi " in the southeastern part of Lake Titicaca .

geography

Murumamani is located on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The climate of the region is derived from the altitude on the Altiplano and the proximity to the large water surface of Lake Titicaca, which mitigates the temperature fluctuations.

The annual average temperature is 11 ° C (see Achacachi climate diagram), with the monthly average in the coldest month (July) at 8 ° C only slightly deviating from the warmest months (November to March) at 12 ° C. The climate is arid from June to August with only sporadic rainfall and humid in the summer months, especially from December to March, with monthly rainfall of more than 100 mm. The annual precipitation is around 600 mm.

Transport network

Murumamani is located 111 kilometers by road northwest of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the asphalt road Ruta 2 leads 70 kilometers northwest to Huarina , from there the Ruta 16 branches off in a northerly direction , which reaches Achacachi after 23 kilometers . Directly behind Achacachi, a road branches off to the northeast in the direction of Sorata , which reaches Warisata after eight kilometers , from there a dirt road leads in a north-westerly direction via Tahari to Murumamani .

population

The population of the village has increased by about a fifth in the past two decades:
