Muscari erdalii is a species of grape hyacinth ( Muscari ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

description

The onion is spherical and 20 to 30 millimeters in diameter. The outer onion skins are papery and ivory brown, the middle ones are membranous and cream colored, and the inner ones are transparent and membranous. The four to six leaves are almost spread out, with a sickle-shaped appearance, linear-lanceolate, 15 to 20 centimeters × 5 to 10 (rarely up to 15) millimeters in size, longer than the shaft, channel-shaped, blue-green, with a rough leaf edge and a pointed to blunt end of the leaf . The shaft is strong, 15 to 20 (rarely from 13 to 27) centimeters long and shorter than the leaves or rarely about as long.

The inflorescence is a loose, cylindrical raceme that consists of 40 to 60 flowers and measures 8 to 12 × 3 to 5 centimeters. The pedicels of the fertile flowers are strong, horizontal to almost protruding and 12 to 15 millimeters long. They are 1.5 to 2 times as long as the perigone and hardly elongated with a length of up to 16 millimeters when the fruit is ripening. The fertile flowers are greenish in the flower bud, 9 to 11 × 3 to 4 millimeters in size during the flowering period, narrow, oblong, inverted cone-shaped, greenish ivory in color. The shoulders are very angular. The petals are blackish, bent back and 0.5 millimeters in size. The outer and inner stamens are 1 millimeter long. The anthers are blackish and 1 to 1.5 millimeters in size. The pollen is yellow. The ovary is 2.5 millimeters in size and ovoid. The stylus is 1 millimeter in size and the scar is spotted. The stalks of the sterile flowers are pale purple, protruding horizontally to ascending, 10 to 20 millimeters long. They are 1.5 to 2 times as long as the sterile flowers or longer. The sterile flowers are narrow, tubular, 3 to 9 millimeters in size, whitish to pale purple with brownish-black tips and curved downwards. The capsules are egg-shaped to circular, three-lobed, blunt to pointed, 12 to 18 × 10 to 15 millimeters in size and blue-green. The fruit flaps are compressed. There are two seeds per capsule. These are 2.5 millimeters wide, egg-shaped, wrinkled and black.

The flowering period extends from May to June.

Muscari erdalii is diploid with a chromosome number of 2n = 18.
