Myron Moss

Myron "Mike" David Moss (born September 28, 1951 , † July 2, 2012 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania ) was an American music director , conductor and adjunct professor at Drexel University . As a musicologist, he made a name for himself in the United States with his work on African-American composers .

Life

Myron Moss was born the son of Robert I. Moss and Sonya dresses, divorced Moss. His stepfather was the physicist Alfred L. Kleid (1927–1998), a pioneer in the field of laser technology.

From 1996 to 2006, Moss conducted various bands as a professor and head of the music department at Southern Connecticut State University and as a guest conductor at Yale University , at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and at the University of Michigan . His doctoral thesis Concert Band Music by African-American Composers 1927–1998 , written in 2000 at the University of Michigan, was awarded the Thelen Prize in 2006 by the International Society for the Research and Promotion of Brass Music (IGEB) .

In 2007 he took over the musical direction of the concert band at Drexel University, where he was associate professor of music history until his death . Moss died of a heart attack at the age of 60 . He was survived by his birth parents and biological sister, Aleta McClelland.
