- Car number 5, driven by Casey Mears , was also qualified for the All-Star Race because it won a race in the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup season . Kyle Busch, who clinched this victory and thus qualified for the All-Star Race, competed with starting number 18. Because Casey Mears drove the number 5 this year, but also won a victory with the number 25, the number 25 was also qualified. The number 25 was changed to the number 88 in 2008 because Hendrick Motorsports wanted to give the new driver, Dale Earnhardt junior , a special number. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is therefore also eligible to participate, but this would have been due to his victory in 2000 anyway.
