At the 1998 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships , the champions in US college tennis were determined. As of May 23, all games were on the University of Georgia campus in Athens . A total of around 8,000 spectators were counted.

In the team competition, Stanford University defended its title with a final victory over host Georgia. For the school it was the fourth title in a row at this tournament.

In the singles the Australian Luke Smith was the defending champion. He was followed by the American Bob Bryan from Stanford University . He defeated his team-mate Paul Goldstein in two sets in the final . At the side of his brother Mike , he also won doubles.
