During the turmoil of the Second World War, two triple-coupled narrow-gauge locomotives made by the French company Schneider & Cie in 1890 came to Germany. They were taken over by Nordhausen-Wernigeroder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (NWE) as No. 71 and 72 . The Deutsche Reichsbahn classified the locomotives under the class 99.563 .

history

These locomotives of a type widespread in France, they belonged to a series of twelve locomotives with the serial numbers 2456 to 2467, were on the Hildburghausen-Heldburger Eisenbahn at the end of the war . Presumably these came from the Chemins de fer départementaux de la Côte-d'Or (see Dijon tram ).

The NWE acquired both locomotives around 1946 despite the old age and lack of operational readiness. In 1952 the locomotives came from the RAW operationally in the Harz. After they failed to prove themselves on the Harzquerbahn , they were used on the Selketalbahn , which at the time had no connection to the Harzquerbahn. In 1956 one machine, 99 5632, was taken out of service, the other, 99 5631, came to Barth in 1957 . There it was retired on November 1, 1966 and scrapped a short time later.

technical features

The engine was located relatively far in front under the locomotive, while the trailing axle was guided quite far back, behind the fire box, in an outer frame. The locomotives had a Stephenson control, the drive rod worked on the third axle. The wheels were full disk wheels. The long storage containers on the side of the boiler, which almost reached to the smoke chamber door, were striking. The steam dome, on the other hand, was located far back, near the driver's cab. In 1952, 99 5631 in Raw Halberstadt received a new boiler.
