The Nacktstängelige ball flower ( Globularia nudicaulis ) is a plant that the genus globularia ( Globularia ) in the family of Plantain Family belongs (Plantaginaceae).
description
The bare-stemmed spherical flower grows as a perennial herbaceous plant with a leafless stem (name!) And reaches heights of between 5 and 25 centimeters. The basal leaves have a length of 5 to 9 (to 15) cm and a width of 1 to 2.5 cm. The simple, mostly obovate-lanceolate leaf blade has a rounded to slightly edged tip and gradually narrows into the petiole. The leaf margin is smooth.
The flowering period extends from June to July. The flowers are united in large numbers to form a spherical head with a diameter of 18 to 25 mm, which creates a signaling effect for pollinators . The blue-violet petals are 10 to 12 mm long and often have a stunted upper lip. The corolla tube is so narrow that only butterflies with their thin proboscis can reach the nectar .
The species chromosome number is 2n = 16 or 24.
distribution
The distribution area of the bare-stemmed spherical flower includes the mountains in south-western and central Europe . It thrives in upper montane to alpine altitudes . This limestone plant prefers rough lawns, dwarf shrub heaths , light pine forests, and laying pine bushes as a location . Scattered in Austria , absent in Burgenland and Vienna . In Central Europe it is a Seslerietalia order character, but also occurs in societies of the Mesobromion or the Erico-Pinion. In the Allgäu Alps, it rises on the Nebelhorn up to 2100 m above sea level; but it has also been observed on the Widdersteingipfel in the Kleiner Walsertal at 2500 m above sea level.
ecology
The bare-stemmed spherical flower is attacked by the rust fungus Puccinia globulariae with Telien .
