Nagpur ( Marathi नागपूर विभाग ) is a division in the Indian state of Maharashtra . It is part of the Vidarbha region .

history

The division was created in 1861 when the province of Nagpur , to which the area previously belonged, was united with the Saugor and Nerbudda territories to form the Central Provinces . After the establishment of the state of India , the area first came to Madhya Pradesh ; on November 1, 1956, a boundary correction was made according to linguistic criteria. The Nagpur division came to the state of Bombay except for the Balaghat district , which came to Madhya Pradesh . At the Gujarati - Marathi language border, the border between Gujarat and Maharashtra was drawn in 1960 , with the division becoming part of Maharashtra.
