history
The division was created in 1861 when the province of Nagpur , to which the area previously belonged, was united with the Saugor and Nerbudda territories to form the Central Provinces . After the establishment of the state of India , the area first came to Madhya Pradesh ; on November 1, 1956, a boundary correction was made according to linguistic criteria.
