Napoléon Joseph Hugues Maret, duc de Bassano
Napoléon Joseph Hugues Maret, Duc de Bassano , (* Paris July 3, 1803 , † Paris May 21, 1898 ) was a French politician and diplomat .
He was the son of the French diplomat and later Foreign Minister Hugues-Bernard Maret , Duc de Bassano. The title awarded commemorates Napoleon I's victory in the Battle of Bassano ( Bassano del Grappa in Veneto ) in 1896.
Career
In 1835 Napoléon Joseph Hugues was recognized by Louis-Philippe I as Duke of Bassano and attaché , then secretary at the French embassy in Brussels . After the February Revolution of 1848 , however, he was recalled. He stepped over to the Bonapartist party, and was, after the Office of the 1849 war minister refused extraordinary envoy and minister plenipotentiary of France at Baden , and in 1851 the Belgian court and 1853-1870 Senator and Great Chamberlain of Napoleon III. .
