Nathan Keith Mauger (born April 8, 1978 in Christchurch , New Zealand ) is a former New Zealand rugby union player on the position of the inner three quarters . He is the older brother of former New Zealand national rugby union player Aaron Mauger . Her uncles Graeme and Stephen Bachop were also New Zealand rugby union internationals from the late 1980s to the mid 1990s. Also, another uncle named Ivan Mauger won the World Speedway Championship six times .

Mauger made his debut with Canterbury in the National Provincial Championship (NPC) in 1998 . In his first NPC season he put the most of his team with seven attempts . In the next two years, however, he could not appear once for Canterbury due to injuries. After his first successful season in the NPC, he made his debut in 1999 with the Crusaders , who won their second title in the Super 12 that year . After his almost two-year injury break, he was reassigned to the Crusaders in 2001. There, like at Canterbury, he played with his brother Aaron. In the same year he scored the most Canterbury again in the NPC, this time 14 attempts. In addition, the team won the New Zealand provincial championship with the two Mauger brothers and was able to successfully defend the Ranfurly Shield .

In 2001 he was also appointed to the squad of the New Zealand national team, the All Blacks , for the November Test Games. He played twice for the All Blacks. However, these games were not official internationals. He made his debut against Ireland A and played his last game against Scotland A (both national B teams). In 2002 he won the Super 12 title with the Crusaders, but did not play in the play-offs. Unlike his brother, he never made the breakthrough due to injury. In the Super 12 he was mostly just a substitute for the Crusaders. Therefore, he went to England for the Gloucester RFC and Japan to the Ricoh Black Rams for one season . He then came back to New Zealand, where he played in the Air New Zealand Cup for Hawke's Bay , but did not get a Super 14 contract.

Like many other New Zealand rugby players (including his brother), Mauger moved again to Europe in 2007. He signed a contract with the Italian first division club Benetton Rugby Treviso . The following year in April he went to RC Toulon for a few months , which was then playing in the French second division Pro D2 . After successfully climbing into the top 14 , Mauger's contract with Toulon was not extended at the end of the 2007/08 season.

He then ended his active rugby career in the same year and founded his own rugby academy called Mauger Developments Rugby in his hometown of Christchurch in 2009 .
