Bagow is a part of the municipality of Päwesin , a municipality in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark ( Brandenburg ) , located on the banks of the Beetzsee . Päwesin belongs to the administrative community Amt Beetzsee .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1324 as Bogow . The name is of Slavic origin and means settlement of a man named Bog . The village is separated from Päwesin by the connection, the Streng , between Beetzsee and Riewendsee. Both villages together occupy the pass between the lakes.

A baroque church building on a hill was destroyed in June 1905 by a lightning strike and subsequent fire. The Bagow village church was built in 1907 as a new building at the western exit of the village according to a design by the architect Georg Büttner in the Heimatstil with Art Nouveau elements and reinstalling the partially rescued Baroque furnishings (altar and pulpit, both acquired in 1698). During the time of the GDR, the church fell into disrepair, lost roof tiles and a storm damaged the roof so much in 1972 that it collapsed shortly afterwards. In 1991 renovation work began. After the roof was restored on June 17, 1992, the community erected a 1.70 meter high, gold-studded cross on the tower. In 1995 the church was rededicated.

The Bagow manor, located in a park-like complex, has been in the possession of the von Ribbeck family again since the 1990s . The manor house has an unplastered two-storey main building made of bricks with a transverse extension and three auxiliary buildings. It was built in 1545 by the von Schliebens who resided there until 1693. This makes it one of the few remaining Renaissance palace buildings in Brandenburg. After the von Schliebens, the von Ribbecks moved in there. At that time, the manor house had a farm, a sheep farm and a forestry. At the end of the 18th century, they used it as their parent house for a few years before a new building in Ribbeck moved the family back into their traditional surroundings. After the Second World War, a central school was established in the manor house, which moved in 1963. In 1975 it was used again as an anti-fascist memorial, commemorating 100 freed prisoners from the Brandenburg penitentiary who spent one night here in 1945. The property is again owned by the family and the memorial was closed on December 31, 1991.

Bagower Bruch nature reserve

In the Päwesiner district, about 1.5 kilometers northwest of the village of Bagow, lies the 98-hectare nature reserve Bagower Bruch . The Bruch is protected as a representative, near-natural deciduous forest complex. There are various endangered animal species that live in the alder forests and thousand-leaf - pond roses - floating leaf corridors . A nature trail leads around six kilometers around the Bruchsee.

Bagow is located on the Brandenburg stork hiking trail .
