The Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten (BS) (also: Binnenlandsche Strijdkrachten ; officially: Nederlandse Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten ; German  for " Dutch Inlands - Armed Forces "; literally " Inland Armed Forces " ) were an officially formed association of the three in the final phase (1944–1945) of the Second World War main Dutch resistance groups .

history

The Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten were officially set up on September 5, 1944. The three most important armed resistance groups in the occupied Netherlands, which until then had fought largely independently of one another against the German occupation , were brought together by royal decree . These were the Ordedienst (OD) ( German  “Ordnungsdienst” ), the Landelijke Knokploegen (LKP) ( German  “Nationale Kampfgruppen” ) and the Raad van Verzet (RVV) ( German  “Resistance Council” ).

Queen Wilhelmina (1880–1962) appointed her son-in-law Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands (1911–2004), who was in exile in London at the time, as Commander-in-Chief . Colonel Henri Koot (1883-1959) became the local commander in Amsterdam . In November 1944 both moved to the new headquarters in the Ulvenhout estate south of the now liberated Breda . Simple blue overalls served as uniforms for the members of the BS .
