Neil Robert Emblen (born June 19, 1971 in Bromley ) is an English football player . The defensive player has been under contract as a player-coach at New Zealand club Western Springs AFC since 2013 . His brother Paul Emblen was also a professional footballer.

In 2012, Emblem looked after the New Zealand national soccer team as an assistant coach, and in 2014 led them in two games as coach, none of which could be won. He is also active as an assistant coach in the country's U-20 selection .

Career

Emblen began his career in 1992 at FC Sittingbourne in the Southern Football League Southern Division and moved to the rise in 1993 for £ 175,000 for second division Millwall FC . After just one season he was transferred to league rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers for £ 600,000 and made 89 league appearances in three years. In 1997, first division club Crystal Palace paid a £ 2,000,000 transfer fee for the services of Emblen.

With only 13 appearances and the relegation of Crystal Palace, the chapter in first division football ended after a year for Emblen and he returned to the Wolverhampton Wanderers. In 2001 he moved to Norwich City for £ 500,000 and was promoted to team captain by coach Nigel Worthington . Due to several injuries, he came in the 2001/02 season only to two missions for Norwich and was thrown back repeatedly from injuries in the following period. In the second half of the 2002/03 season he was awarded twice to FC Walsall , which then took him under contract free of charge. In 2004 he relegated to Football League One with Walsall and left the club a year later for New Zealand.

Emblen signed in the newly formed Australian A-League with the New Zealand Knights , who finished last in both seasons of their league participation. After the club was dissolved, he moved to Waitakere United in 2007 . At the end of the year he took part in the 2007 FIFA Club World Cup with Waitakere , but failed in the qualifying round at Sepahan Isfahan . In 2008 he won the New Zealand championship with the club with a 2-0 victory in the final over Team Wellington and a short time later the OFC Champions League with a 5-0 return win over Kossa FC . Emblen scored the goal to make it 2-0 and thus equalized the 1-3 defeat in the first leg.

Since 2012 he has been the assistant coach of the New Zealand national soccer team and is also responsible for the U-23 team, with which he took part in the Olympic Games in London, but was eliminated in the preliminary round.
