action

The German couple Robert and Claire live in a country house by a lake in Italy . When Nina, Claire's younger sister, is the victim of an act of violence in her house, they want to close their domicile. Tensions are growing between Robert, who had a relationship with Nina, and Claire, who knows about him. At a dinner with their friends and neighbors, they tell them that they not only want to move away, but also want to separate. During the celebration everyone drinks a lot, especially Claire, who obviously has a drinking problem. In doing so, she does not notice how Miriam is having fun with Robert. She ponders the old days when they both had moved into the house happy and fresh. And she thinks of her sister, whom she never thought she would miss so much. When they got back the day Nina was found dead, the police even suspected Robert. They were both interrogated at length and depth. Since there was no evidence of the perpetrator, the proceedings were discontinued. Claire had found out, however, that her sister must have had several male acquaintances. One of these gentlemen had reported by phone and, as it sounded, rented an apartment for Nina in Munich.

The next day the buyer of the house is supposed to come to visit, but the American has signed the purchase contract without seeing the house. The building land is more valuable to him, so he wants to demolish the building and build something completely new. Robert is disappointed about this, but Claire says that he can finally do whatever he wants with the house if it is then his.

To get some distance from Nina, Claire sinks all the things she finds from her sister in the lake in the lake. And to forget the pain, she drowns it in alcohol. Robert helps her with this and says that everything you drink now you don't need to pack for the move. Drunk, the two get into an argument and reproach each other.

One night, Claire observes Robert secretly digging something up under a small tree and hiding it in his car. Before she can find out what's in the blue plastic bag, he threw it down a dam. She suspects that Robert might have something to do with Nina's death, just as the police initially suspected. To lure him out of the reserve, she fakes a suicide attempt. He then confesses to her that he recently slept with Miriam in her house and that she lost her earrings. He would have hidden them and thrown them away. Since Claire doesn't believe him, Robert confesses to having found her hand in the freezer shortly after Nina's death. Fearing that the police would mistake him for the killer, he buried his hand and said nothing. Claire urges him to tell everything and wants to record it on a tape. Robert has to tell in detail how often and where he cheated on her with her sister. She then wanted to end their relationship, whereupon Robert invited Nina to Italy. They wanted to speak, but then would have argued. In doing so, she would have fallen. He would have loved her so much that he just couldn't let her go. He would have rented the apartment in Munich so he could keep an eye on it. He would have asked for her hand too.

It turns out that Claire knew all of this and because she couldn't bear it, she killed her sister and then cut off her hand and tongue. Robert discovers that Claire has obviously gone mad. When he turns away from her and thinks he can no longer bear her, she takes a heavy object and hits Robert with it, who then sinks to the ground.

The film had its TV premiere on November 24, 2014 on ARD.

Reviews

Peter Zander from Welt.de says: “'Nemesis' is a chamber play that is played almost exclusively in a confined space. And is almost exclusively a pure actor duel. A marriage war. A nerve skirmish. Lothar and Mühe were somehow always a public couple. Because they were so symbiotic. And have always worked together, in countless films and even more numerous plays. "

Julia Nieder writes about this melodrama at Spielfilm.de: “The narration of this drama, which will soon turn into a crime thriller, is interlaced, you learn a lot through flashbacks that are visually marked with faded colors and some (of course) only in the last scene. […] There are some nice directing ideas and the script is largely successful and every now and then plays with the fact that actually normal sentences, in the appropriate context, can have nasty ambiguities, which can make the audience feel wonderfully insecure. The story is told at exactly the right pace, calmly, but without noticeable lengths. The real experience, however, remains Susanne Lothar and Ulrich Mühe. "
