Nemesis 2 - The Retribution (OT: Nemesis 2: Nebula ) is an American action film with science fiction elements by Albert Pyun . The film, shot in 1995, is the first sequel to Nemesis .

action

Alex Rayne's attempts (in the first part) to save humanity from cyborgs have failed. In the year 2100 the cyborgs enslaved humanity. But there is resistance: a scientist bred a human with artificial DNA in 2078 and implanted it in a surrogate mother . But the cyborgs discovered them. Using a time machine, the mother was able to escape with her baby and landed in East Africa in 1980 . There, however, there is a fierce battle between the Wotan rebels and the indigenous tribes. The mother dies and a tribe takes in her daughter.

22 years later, Alex is an adult and is accepted as a warrior as the first woman in the tribe. But at the ceremony another time machine with the killer cyborg Nebula lands on board. The cyborg first destroys the tribe and then hunts Alex. On her escape, Alex frees two American smugglers who promise to take her away by plane. But shortly afterwards they land in the hands of the rebels. While Emily betrays her partner, Alex fights against the cyborg, who, however, seems almost invincible. She frees Emily from the rebel general's clutches and the two get to the airfield. But Emily betrays Alex and escapes alone. However, it crashes because the gasoline line was hit beforehand.

Alex faces the cyborg for the final fight and can defeat him. But the next cyborg lands very close by.

production

A second part was originally planned with Olivier Gruner , but he fell out with the production company. Instead, Albert Pyun shot a mix of Predator and Terminator and hired the bodybuilder Sue Price as the leading actress for this and the next two parts .

Parts 2 and 3 were filmed in the same locations in Globe and Miami , Arizona .

publication

In contrast to its predecessor, Nemesis 2 was released as a direct-to-video production . In the USA it was published on September 26, 1995, in Germany on October 17 of the same year. The film was only released on DVD in German-speaking countries as part of the Nemesis box from Astro Distribution. Although it was rated by the FSK from the age of 16, the box is approved and indexed from the age of 18 because of the other three films.

criticism

Most of the time, the film was rated as a quick shot that didn't reach the same level as its predecessor and whose low budget was evident in every shot. The German release did the rest, although African is spoken in some places in the film , but the subtitles have not been edited and the scenes are subtitled in English on both video and DVD .

“Another cheap film by cheap author Albert Pyun, which couldn't have cost too much by far, because everything is made so boring and unspectacular that you really want to fall asleep here. (...) The hardest thing about the film, however, is the leading actress, who because of all the muscles no longer knows where the front and back are and just looks embarrassing all the time. The Germans' desire to edit this film for their compatriots was probably not that great either, because there are passages that are spoken in the native language and still have English subtitles. A little humor would probably have helped the whole film a bit. "

- Haiko's film dictionary

"Poor action film in the wake of 'Terminator', which breaks down into a series of poorly staged fight sequences."
