Nerodima e Epërme ( Albanian  also  Nerodimë e Epërme , Serbian Горње Неродимље Gornje Nerodimlje , in German Obere Nerodima ) is a village in southeastern Kosovo that belongs to the municipality of Ferizaj . In the Middle Ages Nerodimlje was the preferred residence of the Serbian kings and emperors. The palace complexes Nerodimlje, Pauni, Porodimlje, Štimlje and Svrčin were built for them. 1 km from here, Petrić's castle was a place of retreat for regents in the event of war. The palace in Nerodimlje served the Serbian rulers as the most important domain of the empire until 1371. During the Albanian pogroms against Serbian cultural assets in 2004, all medieval monasteries in Nerodimlje were destroyed.

Nerodima e Epërme is about seven kilometers southwest of the city center of Ferizaj. Nerodima e Epërme is next to Nerodima e Poshtme and north of Pleshina . There are also the villages Drmjak , Muhaxher , Balaj and Manastirca . Not far from the village are the Rekathat and Nerodimka rivers . 30 kilometers to the south is Štrpce . After Brezovica is 40 kilometers.

history

The monastery of St. Uroš was built by Empress Helena. It stood on a hill above Nerodimlje. Like three other churches, it was destroyed during the Albanian pogroms against Serbian cultural assets in 2004.
In the Middle Ages, the palaces of the Nemanjids were located on the Svrčin Lake near Nerodimlje, which no longer exists today

The residential complex in Gornje Nerodimlje was built under King Stefan Uroš III. Milutin set up. In addition to the five palaces, Petrič Castle served as a retreat for the ruler during times of military conflict. The palaces were built from wood according to earlier examples in Stari Ras. The newly built palaces in and near Gornje Nerodimlje were built significantly more monumental. In addition to a solid construction, they were covered with carvings. The furnishings were made of precious materials. Theodor Metochites described the palace in 1299 as radiant with silk interwoven with gold.

Important historical events took place in Nerodimlje during the rule of the Nemanjids. Stefan Milutin, who moved the palace in Deževo from Stari Ras to Gornji Nerodimlje since 1282, chose Nerodimlje as the new place of his rule, halfway between the two largest cities of the empire, Prizren and Skoplje. In the Middle Ages, Nerodimlje was not far from the now silted up Lake Svrčin . The residence complexes were also built here due to the abundance of fish in the lake. In Nerodimlje the meeting of the Serbian king Stephan Uroš IV. Dušan with the Byzantine emperor John VI took place. Kantakuzenes instead. A palace of the Archbishop of the Serbian Orthodox Church was also located in the immediate vicinity of the mansion. About 2 km north of the palace of Nerodimlje were the palaces of Porodimlje and Štimlje. They were the preferred residences of Stefan Uroš III. Dečanski. Another palace, Svrčin, was on an island in the lake. This is where the synod resided when Stefan Dušan was appointed King of Serbia in 1331 instead of his father. Both Stefan Milutin and Stefan Uroš V. died in Nerodimlje. The latter even spent a large part of his life in Nerodimlje.

During the Albanian pogroms in Nerodimlje, the medieval Serbian churches, monasteries of the Holy Archangel, Our Lady, as well as St. Stafan and St. Uroš were destroyed.

The 2011 census in the Republic of Kosovo found that the village of Nerodima e Epërme was home to 1,648 people. Of these, in 1638 they identified themselves as Albanians , four as Serbs , one as Bosniak , seven as Roma and one did not comment on any ethnic group .

In 2011, 1645 of the 1648 inhabitants professed Islam , one Christian and two people gave no answer regarding their beliefs.

Infrastructure

Road 206 runs through the village towards Ferizaj to M-25.3 and Suhareka .
