Neu-Schmerlitz , Upper Sorbian , more rarely Nowa Smjerdźaca , is a single settlement with one inhabitant in the forest between Schmerlitz and Döbra in Upper Lusatia in Saxony . It belongs to the municipality Ralbitz-Rosenthal and is one of the official settlement area of the Sorbs .
history
The origin of the settlement was an inn built in the forest belonging to the St. Marienstern monastery on Schönauer Flur, the so-called Buschschänke , which was used by forest workers and carters as a resting place and overnight accommodation. In the meantime the settlement had more than twenty inhabitants. There were also several small quarries and a peat quarry in the area.
The Sorbian place name is derived from the name of the inn, which has now burned down, the German one refers to the next place Schmerlitz, although the settlement has belonged to the community of Schönau since it was built.
Today only two residential buildings remain, only one of which was permanently inhabited until 2013.
