geography

Naußlitz is located about 11 kilometers east of Kamenz and 17 kilometers northwest of Bautzen in the agriculturally used floodplain of the monastery water , a little to the right of the river. It belongs to Delany , the historical "Netherlands" of the Marienstern monastery care.

The town hall borders in the north on Ralbitz , in the northeast on Eutrich (municipality Königswartha ), in the east on Caßlau (municipality Neschwitz ), in the southeast on Doberschütz , in the southwest on Zerna and on Rosenthal in the west.

history

Naußlitz was first mentioned in a document in 1248 in connection with the establishment of the St. Marienstern monastery . There the place is called Nouosedlitz . Later forms of the name were u. a. Nossedlicz circa Radilwicz ("Naußlitz bei Ralbitz", 1374/82), Nawselwicz (1431) and Nauselitz (1558). The manorial power lay with the monastery for the entire time. In terms of settlement history, it is a dead end village . This and the place name derived from nowe sydlišćo ("new settlement") suggest that Naußlitz is younger than its neighboring towns.

In the last days of the Second World War , Naußlitz was severely damaged in connection with the Battle of Bautzen and subsequently rebuilt with the active support of Sorbian youth brigades.

Until January 1, 1957 Naußlitz was an independent rural community; then it was incorporated first to Ralbitz and on January 1, 1994 finally to Ralbitz-Rosenthal.

Population and language

Crossroads between Naußlitz and Ralbitz

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 125 in the 1880s; including without exception Sorbs . In 1956 Ernst Tschernik counted a Sorbian-speaking population of 76.6% in the community of Naußlitz. To this day, Sorbian is the predominant everyday language in the town.

The population remained largely stable over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, fluctuating between 130 and 150. After the political change in 1990, there was a slight decline in population.

The majority of the devout residents are Roman Catholics to Ralbitz , the small Protestant portion belong to the Schmeckwitz parish .
