Neuburg main comparison
On January 15, 1656, the main settlement in Neuburg took place , in which the Duchy of Palatinate-Sulzbach achieved its independence from the Duchy of Palatinate-Neuburg . This created the Duchy of Palatinate-Sulzbach as an independent, imperial direct principality and at the same time as the last of the Wittelsbach principalities.
history
prehistory
From 1305 Sulzbach was owned by the Wittelsbach family and from 1505 part of the so-called "Young Palatinate". Palatine Count Ottheinrich II resided here in the castle from 1582. Wolfgang von Pfalz-Zweibrücken's eldest son, Philipp Ludwig , founded the older Pfalz-Zweibrücken-Neuburg line in 1569, from which the Pfalz-Sulzbach line branched off in 1614 with Count Palatine August . In 1632 the Principality of Pfalz-Sulzbach did not revert to the ancestral home of Neuburg, but was passed on to their son Christian August . Sulzbach was thus the seat of a deputate principality that was under the sovereignty of the ruling prince of the ancestral principality of Pfalz-Neuburg.
Neuburg main comparison
In 1652 Christian August reached the so-called "Cologne settlement", a first agreement with Pfalz-Neuburg under the Catholic Wolfgang Wilhelm . Christian August then obtained the sovereignty of Palatinate-Sulzbach as a duke in relation to the Neuburg prince Philipp Wilhelm, who had ruled since 1653, as a duke, while he converted to the Catholic faith in return. The Duchy of Palatinate-Sulzbach comprised the district court of Sulzbach with the rule of Breitenstein , the Neo-Burgische half at the community office Parkstein-Weiden and the care office Floß with the court Vohenstrauß . However, it never had a seat in the Fürstenkolleg , as no official Reichsbelehung had taken place.
Further course
In 1742 the main line of the Neuburg Count Palatine died out. The Sulzbach branch succeeded Karl Theodor . In 1777 he also inherited the Bavarian Wittelsbach family, so that under Karl Theodor the large Wittelsbach states were united to form Electoral Palatinate Bavaria .
