Neue Rheinische Zeitung. Political-economic review
The Neue Rheinische Zeitung. Politico-Economic Revue ( NRhZ Revue ) was a monthly magazine published by Karl Marx in Hamburg in 1850 , which was to serve as a continuation of the Neue Rheinische Zeitung . All booklets were edited by Karl Marx. Conrad Schramm was the guarantee . The magazine was made by the Hamburg company & Co Schuberth . distributed on commission.
Printing and distribution
After the Neue Rheinische Zeitung was suppressed on May 19, 1849 and Marx had been expelled from the Prussian states as a foreigner, he tried to continue this newspaper. The Westdeutsche Zeitung wrote on October 17, 1849: “ We received news from London that Dr. Marx will publish a political and economic review within a short time . ”The name of the newspaper was clear to Marx:“ Only appear under the old name. Régle générale ”. Federal member Theodor Hagen was able to win the Hamburg publisher Julius Schuberth and his publishing house Schuberth & Co. as publisher.
Although the first issue appeared late in March 1850, Marx planned to convert the magazine " into a fortnightly and weekly publication and, depending on the circumstances, into a daily newspaper " as early as January . Almost at the same time, on February 17, 1850, the Berlin police chief Hinckeldey informed the Prussian interior minister Manteuffel that " the well-known Marx " would be published in the Neue Rheinische Zeitung. Politico-Economic Revue will be published in Hamburg and that the " notorious Karl Schramm " is the guarantor of this magazine, and how one can suppress the magazine of the 'revolutionary party'. The first issue was printed by JEM Koehler , the other issues by HG Voigt in Wandsbek . Issue 2 appeared around March 4th, issue 3 around April 11th, issue 4 around May 20th and the last issue 5/6 only in November 1850. The NRhZ Revue found subscribers and booksellers in Frankfurt am Main, Cologne, Geneva, Düsseldorf, Bielefeld, Barmen, Zurich and other places. 2500 copies of the first three issues were printed, and about 2000 copies of the others.
Announcements and reviews appeared in the newspapers: Westdeutsche Zeitung , Neues Hamburger Journal , Der Freischütz , Hornisse , Trierische Zeitung and others. Otto Lüning , Ludwig Simon and Adolph Strodtmann dealt extensively with articles in this magazine.
The articles by Marx and Engels published in this journal represent a reaction to the defeat of the European revolution of 1848/49 . They evaluated the political and military defeat and saw e.g. B. in the American gold finds an end to the economic crisis and a stabilization of economic conditions.
