description

The synagogue in Lissa with the welsch copper dome in 1905

The synagogue was built between 1796 and 1799 on the site of a previous building from 1626. The inauguration took place on Friday, March 2nd, 1799.

In 1903 the Jewish community commissioned H. Müller to convert the exterior of the synagogue in the neo-Romanesque style. A gallery , arcades, a tower, a canopy over the bima and a Torah shrine in the neo-renaissance or neo-baroque style were set up.

In 1956, the Welsche copper dome on the tower including the top floor of the tower was lost. The copper hoods on the side had also disappeared. Furthermore, the entire interior was missing. The building was recently completely refurbished, but without returning it to its original state. Today there is the Muzeum Okręgowe w Lesznie in the secular synagogue .
