Neufra on the Danube around 1900

Neufra, in early documents also Neufrach , Neufern or Niverun , once belonged to the Lords of Gundelfingen , from 1546 to the Counts of Helfenstein and from 1627 to the Princes of Fürstenberg . There were two locks in the area.

The pastor of Neufra, which in 1806 became an independent parish in the Württemberg Oberamt Riedlingen , received the so-called "Springhaber" in the amount of three 'Simri' oats that citizens had to pay for illegitimate impregnations in 1827. From 1810 the Oberamt Riedlingen belonged to the Landvogtei on the Danube. In 1818 it belonged to the Danube District , which was dissolved in 1924. In 1934 the Oberamt Riedlingen was renamed the Riedlingen district , in 1938 it was dissolved and its communities assigned to the Saulgau district .

As part of the municipal reform in Baden-Württemberg , the previously independent municipality of Neufra was incorporated into Riedlingen on June 1, 1972, and after the district reform in Baden-Württemberg , it belonged to the Biberach district since January 1, 1973.

The elephant is a rare heraldic animal in European heraldry , it symbolizes the rule of Helfenstein.
