The New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park is a as a National Historical Park excellent range of the metropolitan area of New Bedford in the state of Massachusetts of the United States , which formally by the National Park Service is managed (NPS). With its buildings, facilities and museums, the park offers an insight into the history of the city, which became rich and known around the world , especially in the 19th century through whaling . In addition to the Old Third District Courthouse visitor center , the New Bedford National Historic Landmark District , the New Bedford Whaling Museum , the Church of Seamen's Bethel , the schooner Ernestina and the William Rotch, Jr. House are worth mentioning.
Despite being a national park, only two buildings are owned by the NPS; management is in partnership between the NPS, the City of New Bedford and private owners. The park has partnered with the Iñupiat Heritage Center in Utqiagvik , Alaska to commemorate the 2000+ whaling trips from New Bedford to the Western Arctic .
