New Stuyahok is a city in the Dillingham Census Area in Alaska . According to the 2000 census , 471 people lived there.

New Stuyahok is located on the Nushagak River , about 20 km upstream from Ekwok .
history
In 1918 the Old Village was relocated downstream to the Mulchatna area. In the 1920s and 1930s the village was included in the government's reindeer program. But by 1942 the herd had dissolved into nothing. The village was flooded and too far upstream to be supplied by boats. So in 1942 the village was moved downstream to its present location. The first school was built in 1961 and a post office was built that same year. 1972 the place received city rights .
Culture
New Stuyahok is a Yupik village with Russian Orthodox influence. The inhabitants live from fishing ( salmon ) and are self-sufficient. The main sources of meat are elk , caribou , rabbits , ducks and geese .
