Nick Launay

Nick Launay (* 1960 in London ) is a British sound engineer and music producer who is known for his productions by Australian bands such as Midnight Oil , INXS and Silverchair .

Life

Launay was born in London in 1960, but grew up in Frigiliana in Andalusia . In 1977 he returned with the family to London and took up a job as a sound engineer at Tape One Studio. A remix of M's Pop Muzik made by Launay for fun was liked by Robin Scott and released as a maxi single. Launay got a job as a sound engineer in the Townhouse Studios of the Virgin Records label in 1980 and studied with John Leckie , Tony Visconti , Steve Lillywhite and Hugh Padgham . During this time he worked for artists such as The Jam ( Sound Effects ), XTC ( Black Sea ), the Simple Minds and others before John Lydon of Public Image Ltd. 1981 asked him to co-produce their third album Flowers of Romance . Hugh Padgham recommended him to Kate Bush for her fourth album The Dreaming because of his drum sound . He oversaw recordings for Killing Joke , the Slits , The Birthday Party , Spear of Destiny and Gang of Four . As a sound engineer, he oversaw albums by artists such as Kate Bush ( The Dreaming ), Eric Clapton ( Behind the Sun ) and John Martyn ( Glorious Fool ). He became internationally known through his productions for Midnight Oil ( 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 ), The Church and INXS ( Swing ). His connections with these Australian bands and constant travel between the UK and Australia led to a move to Sydney in 1994. He has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 2002, producing bands such as Supergrass , Grinderman, Yeah Yeah Yeahs , The Cribs and Nick Cave .
