Niclas Lucenius (born May 3, 1989 in Turku ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho in the Liiga since November 2018 .
Career
Niclas Lucenius began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of Tappara Tampere , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2006/07 season , with no point or penalty in five games. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the fourth round as a total of 115th player by the Atlanta Thrashers , for whom he never played. Instead, the center stayed with Tappara and developed into a regular and leading player in the following years. His greatest success with the Tampere team was reaching third place in the 2007/08 season . During his time at Tappara, he played as a loan player for the Finnish U20 national team , LeKi and Kiekko-Vantaa in the second-class Mestis .
After he had belonged to the top scorers of Tappara Tampere in the two previous years, he was signed for the 2011/12 season by Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League . The Latvians had already selected him as the 122nd player in the KHL Junior Draft 2010 in the sixth round. In August 2012, his contract was terminated and Lucenius returned to Tappara. For Tappara he then completed 45 SM-liiga games, in which he collected 20 points and won the Finnish runner-up. At the same time, he was used during the main round at LeKi from Mestis , collecting 16 points in 8 games. In September 2013, Lucenius initially moved to LeKi before signing a trial contract with TPS Turku in October , which was extended at the beginning of November.
Due to strong performances in the Mestis, Lucenius received a contract with Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho (HPK) in November 2018 and won the Finnish championship with the club in May 2019 .
