Nico Birnbaum

Nico Birnbaum (* 1977 in Kiel ) is a German actor .

Life

Before becoming an actor, Nico Birnbaum studied literature and philosophy at the University of Aix-en-Provence and lived in Rome as a translator and German teacher .

From 2008 Birnbaum took acting classes. He attended acting seminars and workshops (including at Laboratory Actors Berlin). 2010–2011 he studied at the “Scuola Nazionale di Cinema Indipendente” in Florence . After completing his doctoral thesis, which was partly in Florence, THE FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT in Franz Kafka's “Der Verschollene” and “Das Schloß” on Franz Kafka's work and his doctorate (2009–2011) with summa cum laude at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (oral exam in May 2012) Birnbaum gave up his academic career and decided entirely on a professional acting career. 2014–2016 he received acting training and acting coaching for film, TV and theater at the Berlin acting agency “Die Tankstelle”.

Birnbaum had his first theater engagements at independent theaters, for example at Theater Acud in Berlin (2008, 2009), at the "Society Players" (Theater Hautnah eV) in Berlin (April / May 2009) and at the Kulturzentrum Brotfabrik Berlin (2013) . In 2014 he appeared at the Berlin Schlosspark Theater as FBI agent Simpson in the play Einstein's betrayal by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt . With this production he went on tour in Germany in the 2014/15 theater season, with Matthias Freihof (Einstein) and Volker Brandt (Vagabund) as partners. In April / May 2016 followed a repeat tour with the tour theater “Thespiskarren”, in which Birnbaum alternated in his role with Mathias Harrebye-Brandt . In 2015 he was a guest at Hebbel am Ufer with the half-hour English monologue Warning Signs in a production of the “Dream Epic Theater” by David Kantounas .

The first film works were made during Birnbaum's time in Florence, where he starred in several short films from the “Scuola Nazionale di Cinema Indipendente”. In 2010 he also made his first feature film Reality News (as the leader of the terrorists) by Salvatore Vitiello , which was released in Italy in 2014 .

On German television he had episode roles in the television series Schicksale - and suddenly everything is different (2013, as a charming diamond dealer and later blackmailer Lukas von Schönfels; 2014, as a rapist Simon Kronen), Unter uns (2013, as a cunning journalist Martin Hellwing, with Kathrin Osterode as a partner) and Verbotene Liebe (2015, as the drug dealer Sandro Wollmers, at the side of Jens Hartwig ).

In November 2017, Birnbaum was seen in the 5th season of the ZDF series Heldt in an episode role as Andreas Bruhn; he played the owner of the motorcycle shop "Ruhrpott Rider".

Birnbaum also works as a voice actor and radio play speaker . He is a member of the Federal Drama Association (BFFS) and lives in Berlin.
