Fates - and suddenly everything is different is a "Light Fiction" television program on the German television station Sat.1 , which is broadcast on weekdays at 5:30 p.m. It is produced by Constantin Entertainment . The first broadcast took place on February 8, 2010.

content

Different fates are presented in each episode of the program. For example, there are kidnappings, other criminal acts or drastic experiences. At the beginning of the program, parts of the end of the plot that are particularly significant are shown. Then the story of how this scene came about is told. With different screen divisions ( split screen ) and displays of the remaining time until the respective "fate" is intended to create tension in the audience.

Concept and production

In fates it is not (more) about a pseudo-reality show (see. Scripted reality), because unlike formats such as family cases , neighbor against neighbor , Pure Life or My dark secret that also in Sat.1 -Programme are broadcast, situations are not simply simulated and filmed in documentary style. Instead, it is a matter of scenic actions with correspondingly prepared and constructed camera settings. There are written scripts for every episode.

A stylistic similarity to so-called Scripted Reality exists only in the dramaturgical direction, and in the fact that the people appearing are not only professional actors , but also amateur actors . Patrick G. Boll , known from Berlin - Tag & Nacht , had an appearance on the show in 2016.

Each episode, including the advertisements played in between, is 30 minutes long.

Broadcasting and audience ratings

After a five-part series of tests from February 8th to 12th, 2010 at 5:00 p.m., Sat.1 decided, due to acceptable ratings, to continue showing the program in the previous evening program. Further episodes were ordered, but they were not broadcast until September 20, Monday to Friday at 7:00 p.m. During this time, the program was able to improve from initially single-digit values for 14–49-year-old viewers to double-digit values. The best value was 11.1% and thus just above the average of the broadcasters at the time. So Sat.1 extended the test run indefinitely. Presumably, however, the production company did not manage to produce the episodes quickly enough, so that the broadcast had to be canceled at the end of October 2010.

Until the return of fate on November 29, 2010, there were repetitions of K11 commissioners in action . After a while, the odds fell dramatically. The program was then discontinued and replaced by K11 .

About six months later, on November 24, 2011, it was announced that new episodes would be shown from December 5. Now back on the broadcast slot at 5:30 p.m. Since then, the pseudo-docu-soap Niederig und Kuhnt - detect the inspectors . First broadcasts were shown until February and reruns since then. The quotas fell over the summer months of 2012. Slightly below average values were measured. With mostly less than 10%, the quotas were just below the broadcaster average at the time.

From August 13th to December 6th 2012 new episodes were shown, since then reruns. In addition, since December 17, 2012, instead of neighbor against neighbor, another episode of Fates has been broadcast at 6:00 p.m.

From December 3, 2012 to August 23, 2013, two repeats were shown from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m.

The program was mostly broadcast at 5:30 p.m. and sometimes also at 5:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. Since the beginning of the broadcast of the second season of My Dark Secret , the show has only been broadcast on weekdays at 5:30 p.m.

In the regional program of Sat.1, the broadcast will be replaced by the regional news 17:30 Sat.1 . It is therefore not possible to receive the broadcast with DVB-T reception, for example.
