My dark secret is a scripted reality television program on the German television station Sat.1 that was broadcast on weekdays at 5:00 p.m. It was produced by various production companies, including Filmreif TV GmbH, Talpa Germany GmbH (until 2014 under Schwartzkopff TV-Productions GmbH), Janus TV GmbH and La Paloma TV GmbH. The first broadcast took place on June 24, 2013.

In every episode of the show, a supposedly "dark secret" is revealed. The spectrum extends, for example, from sabotage, to infidelities and secret adoptions . The show usually ends after the commercial with a confession that leads to a happy ending , in some cases obtained through law enforcement. It often turns out that the original suspect is innocent, while an alleged confidant turns out to be the real perpetrator.
In my dark secret is a pseudo-reality show (scripted reality). This means that it is similar to on patrol , on patrol - the specialists or lawyers in action , which are also broadcast in the Sat.1 program, to set scenes. There are exact scripts for each episode. The characters are exclusively amateur actors and the supposed events are not real.
Each episode, including the commercials played in between, is 30 minutes long.

Since it was first broadcast on June 24, 2013, the series was broadcast until September 27, 2013 on weekdays at 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m. After the end of the broadcast of the first seasons, reruns were broadcast on Saturdays, as before. Since the quotas were often above the channel average for Sat.1, the program was extended by a second season. This has been broadcast since January 27, 2014 on the usual weekday broadcasting slot. The last episode for the time being aired on October 28, 2016.
