occupation

Judge Alexander Hold was a pseudo-documentary court show broadcast on Sat.1 , in which fictitious court hearings in criminal matters are presented. The main actor is the real judge Alexander Hold . The series is considered an offshoot of judge Barbara Salesch . In the week from September 13 to September 17, 2010, the title was renamed due to a different legal situation: Family cases - Judge Hold. Another special week went on air from March 19 to March 23, 2012 and from July 23 to July 27, 2012. There were episodes that did not show court hearings, but cases in the form of a pseudo-docu-soap . The programs ran under the title Richter Alexander Hold - Special: Secrets .

On December 4, 2012, the 2000th episode aired. On December 21, 2012 it was announced that the last episode had been filmed on December 20, 2012. From January 2 to February 12, 2013, the remaining new episodes of the program were shown.

After no more episodes are produced, reruns are still broadcast daily on Sat.1 Gold .

Realism

As in other pseudo-documentaries, the reality of criminal negotiations is only reflected in the series to a very limited extent. A significant difference to the actual everyday life in German courtrooms can be seen in the loud, sometimes polemical attacks between public prosecutor and defense attorney . Unexpected new developments in the process, which prove the innocence of the accused and unmask a witness present as a real perpetrator, are standard in the program. This increases the tension effect, but this approach suggests to the viewer a negligent preliminary investigation by the criminal police and the public prosecutor's office . In real legal practice, however, an indictment should only be brought after careful investigations and if there is sufficient evidence, which is why such dramatic turning points are extremely rare in real court hearings.

Another point is the standardized banter between the judiciary and the accused / witness. The witnesses and defendants also insult each other regularly, almost compellingly. Physical excesses rarely occur. Usually this is punished with serious reminders and fines.

Cast and production

The main actor is Alexander Hold as presiding judge. Prosecutors and defense attorneys are also embodied by real lawyers. Supporting actors are usually assessors , if necessary co-plaintiffs , defendants , witness (s) , experts , secretaries and, if applicable, lay judges .

Richter Alexander Hold was produced by the German production company Constantin Entertainment in Studio 11 of the ProSiebenSat.1 production in Unterföhring near Munich. As defendants, plaintiffs, witnesses, experts, etc. occur only amateur actors on. However, uniformed police officers in the courtroom are portrayed by real police officers, while the bailiff is an actor.

Family cases

For the week from September 13 to September 17, 2010, Judge Hold tried mock family cases. In these cases family law was used heavily. The show's title at the time was Family Cases - Judge Hold .

Secrets - living with lies

In the week from March 19 to March 23, 2012, no court hearings were shown, but cases in the form of a pseudo-docu-soap . There were cases that deal with secrets of family members. The title of the show at that time was Judge Alexander Hold - Special: Secrets .

The series has been broadcast on Sat.1 in the afternoons from Monday to Friday since November 12, 2001, on Saturdays since May 8, 2004, and even on Sundays from September 18 to November 13, 2005. It is often repeated at night. From August 21 to December 29, 2006, the program was broadcast Monday through Friday at noon. However, the broadcast slot on Saturday remained at 4 p.m. as usual.
