Nicolae Văcăroiu
Nicolae Văcăroiu (born December 5, 1943 in Cetatea Albă, today Bilhorod-Dnistrowskyj , Ukraine ) is a Romanian politician. He is a member of the social democratic Partidul Social Democrat (PSD). Between 1992 and 1996 he was Romanian Prime Minister and from 2000 to 2008 Chairman of the Romanian Senate .
On April 19, 2007, President Traian Băsescu was suspended by parliament, among other things he was accused of "violating the constitution" and "arbitrarily applying the law". Thus, Nicolae Văcăroiu, the previous chairman of the Senate, was the new incumbent president, until Băsescu was confirmed in office in May 2007 by a referendum in which the people should decide on his removal.
On October 14, 2008, Nicolae Văcăroiu was elected by the Parliament as chairman of the Romanian Court of Auditors .
