Nicolaus Serarius

Nicolaus Serarius (born December 5, 1555 in Rambervillers , † May 30, 1609 in Mainz ) was a Lorraine Jesuit, exegete and church historian .

Life

He began his studies in Remiremont . From 1569 to 1573, he studied philosophy in Cologne. On March 3, 1573, he joined the Society of Jesus .

He taught philosophy and theology at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , which was re-established in 1582 by Prince-Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn . From 1589 to 1590 he was vice-rector of the university, in 1591 he became a lecturer in metaphysics . From 1595 he taught theology at the College of the Jesuits in Mainz , which was officially recognized as part of the Electoral University ( see also: Jesuit Novitiate ). He mainly left comments on the biblical books.

The five-part work on the history of the archdiocese , the archbishops and the city, supplemented by notes and additions, formed part of the collection of sources by the historical researcher Georg Christian Joannis on the history of Mainz from the beginnings to Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg .
