The Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn T 5 railcar was the last railcar procured for the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn and at the same time the company's most powerful railcar. It was equipped with two engines of 250 hp each.

The railcar came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR after 1945 and was given the designation VT 137 560 . The railcar was in use until 1972 and was given the EDP designation 185 024-7 . Today the railcar no longer exists.

history

In 1943, the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn received a five-axle railcar from the Dessauer Waggonfabrik to complete their procurement of railcars. In terms of performance, the railcar was equipped with two engines, each with an output of 250 hp.

The railcar, which ran from 1949 on the Deutsche Reichsbahn under the designation VT 137 560 , belonged to the Reichsbahndirektion Berlin in 1950 . It was used from 1955 to 1965 in the railcar depot in Berlin-Karlshorst . The railcar was the longest of the former Niederbarnimern in use.

In 1970 the railcar was relocated to Stendal , where it was given the EDP designation 185 024-7 . In 1972 the railcar was retired.

Constructive features

Compared to the T 4, the T 5 left a rustic impression, which was particularly evident from the front section with the five front windows, the large headlights and the side section with the long double running boards above the middle and outer entrance doors.

A data sheet about the railcar is available in the Dresden Transport Museum . The five-axle version with a three-axle motor bogie with the A1A axle order and a two-axle motor bogie was necessary due to the load distribution. Above the two-axle bogie, it had a luggage compartment with a loading area of ​​6.5 m² and a loading capacity of 1,000 kg. This was locked with a double-leaf door. The entry room on this side was set back a long way. The car was heated by a hot water heater with an underfloor coke oven.

Originally the machine system was made up of two motors with 250 HP each; when the Deutsche Reichsbahn redesigned it, two motors from the Elbe factory in Roßlau were specified with 150 HP each. The electrical equipment came from Siemens-Schuckertwerke . Each diesel engine drove a main generator with 93 kW output at 1,500 revolutions / minute. The railcar had an on-board network of 24 V, fed by the battery or the main generator.
