The Niedervieland , older spelling Niederviehland , is an area in the west of the city of Bremen between Ochtum and Weser . It is not represented in the administrative structure of the city of Bremen itself, but lies in the area of the Bremen districts of Seehausen , Strom , Rablinghausen , Woltmershausen and Neustädter Hafen .

The Niedervieland is characterized as a march by agricultural use. In 2006, large parts of its undeveloped areas were declared a landscape protection area. Furthermore, the Ochtumniederung nature reserve near Brokhuchting also includes small areas of the Niedervieland on the Ochtum and the Alte Ochtum. Both protected areas legally secure the 1,331 ha large notified bird sanctuary in Niedervieland (DE 2918-401) .

The larger area in terms of area is taken up by the Bremen commercial areas Niedervieland I and II, the Bremen freight center , the Neustädter Hafen and Spülfeldern . The extension of the A 281 to the planned Weser tunnel and the B 212n into the Wesermarsch district will cut the area even more apart.

The area designation Niedervieland was created in 1598 by the division of the Goh Vieland into Niedervieland and the Obervieland south of the then Ochtum course . The villages of Ware , Woltmershausen, Strom, Rablinghausen, Lankenau , Seehausen and Hasenbüren belonged to the Niedervieland .

The area is threatened by floods ; an independent dyke association had existed since 1598, which was merged into the Bremen dyke association on the left bank of the Weser in 1947 .
