Niederwil is a hamlet in the Zürcher Weinland and belongs to the political municipality of Adlikon . The closest hamlet Oberwil already belongs to the Winterthur district , but historically the hamlets belong together, which is also reflected in the name: the hamlet located low (Niederwil) and above (Oberwil).

Niederwil is a traditionally rural village where the majority of the population comes from the hamlet itself. In recent years, however, several apartment buildings or new single-family houses have been built, so that foreigners have also moved in.

The majority of the population belongs to the Reformed Church and is a member of the Reformed Parish Andelfingen .

Niederwil currently has a council for the municipality of Adlikon, which is currently dominated by the SVP .

The Klosterberger wine from Niederwil is well known and can be obtained directly from the producer.

history

An important Roman route from Vitodurum ( Winterthur ) to Schaffhausen used to run through Niederwil . In 1882 the remains of Roman buildings were found in Niederwil, which shows that Niederwil, although it has always remained a very small village, has been inhabited for a very long time.

The vineyard, which was owned by the Töss monastery for a long time, is mentioned in writing later .
