The Nieverner hut is a former ironworks on today Fachbach at the Lahn belonging island Oberau (formerly Nievern ).
history
The Nieverner Hütte was founded in 1671 by Peter Michael Mariot, Gottfried Eberhard Nottemanns and Gerhard Frank Bouille. Iron ore was originally smelted into pig iron here , first with charcoal and later with coke . After 1882 the blast furnaces were shut down and the smelter was converted into an iron foundry . Due to the global economic crisis and the displacement of cast iron by aluminum and steel , the "Frankschen Eisenwerke Nieverner Hütte" was closed in 1932.
Businesses settled on the site. During the Second World War , armaments were produced here, which made the island a target for Allied air strikes.
