Nigel Codrington (born July 5, 1979 in Georgetown ) is a former football player from Guyana . He has been the record scorer for the Guyanese national team since 2007 (as of 2016), and has taken part in two Caribbean football championships with her .

Club career

In 1999 Codrington began his career at Campton Georgetown. His international career began at the age of 24. From 2003 to 2009 he was under contract with a total of four clubs from North and Central America . Including clubs from Trinidad and Tobago , Barbados and the US third division Cleveland City Stars . In 2009 Codrington came back to Campton Georgetown. In 2010 he moved to Alpha United Georgetown, where he ended his career in 2012.

National team

Codrington played in one of Guyana's two qualifying games for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, both of which were lost to Grenada .

In 2006, the striker helped his team with seven goals in six qualifying games to their second participation in a Caribbean football championship after the premiere in 1991. In the 2007 finals , he scored three more goals in the game against Guadeloupe . The 4: 3 win in this game was not enough to survive the preliminary round. Qualification and finals combined, Codrington was the top scorer of the competition with ten goals.

Also in the two qualifying games for the 2010 World Cup in 2008 Codrington scored the only goal for Guyana. After a 0: 1 and a 1: 2 defeat against Suriname , the national team failed as in 2004 because of their first opponent.

In qualifying for the 2008 Caribbean Cup , Codrington scored two of Guyana's four goals in the first qualifying round, but was absent from the second round, in which Guyana was eliminated. Codrington took part in qualifying for the 2010 Caribbean Championship for the last time . This time Guyana qualified again, Codrington remained unsuccessful in qualifying and finals.

By 2010, Nigel Codrington had played at least 23 FIFA- recognized internationals and scored at least 13 goals.
