Publications and releases
Was first published in Night Beat in August 1963 by the label RCA on LP - as a single was Little Red Rooster decoupled ( B-side : You Gotta Move ).
In later years the album was re-released by several labels; also as a CD .
Charts and reception
In the album charts of Billboard reached Night Beat in 1963 as the highest position place 62nd
The Guardian took Night Beat in its list of "1000 albums you must hear before you die" on the grounds that Cooke's voice "never was mesmerizing, as in this quiet and graceful album".
The music database Allmusic lists Night Beat with five out of five possible stars.
Trivia
In the liner notes of Night Beat is Ray Charles quoted as saying: "The real deal. He hits every note exactly where it should be. And he not only hits her, he hits her with feeling. Nobody else sounded like Sam - nobody! "
