Nightline (phone)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Nightline (English, made up of night [German: Nacht] and line [German: connection, line]) refers to a listening and information telephone from students for students. The aim is to be the first point of contact for fellow students who want someone who listens to them without prejudice and, if necessary, refers them to professional advice centers, or who is simply a conversation partner. The similar experience horizons of the collaborating and the calling students should provide a common basis.

The psychological background provides the theory of Carl Rogers ; The primary goal is to support the caller mainly in his independent problem solving, decision making, etc. through non-directive conversation , without guiding him through (possibly premature) interpretations in a direction determined by the listener.

The idea of student nightlines originated in the United Kingdom and is widespread there. In Germany there are currently such offers in Leipzig , Heidelberg , Aachen , Freiburg im Breisgau , Münster , Dresden , Munich , Cologne , Karlsruhe , Constance , Potsdam , Tübingen , Bielefeld , Frankfurt and Hamburg (there also by e-mail). In Switzerland there is a nightline in Zurich. The first Federal German Nightline was founded in 1994 by two educational science students at Heidelberg University .

The student initiative “Nightline Münster e. V. “was awarded the Student Prize 2008 of the WWU Münster on January 9th, 2009. The Münster listening and information telephone received the prize, endowed with 2500 euros, for their voluntary work. In addition, the WWU Münster provides a short video about the work of the Nightline on its website. In 2010 “Nightline Münster” qualified in a nationwide project by startsocial . The Nightline Münster was chosen among the best 25 projects and honored in the Chancellery.

The “Nightlines Deutschland eV” funding initiative, which is recognized as a non-profit organization, supports Nightlines throughout Germany with its “Nightline Foundation” project and tries to better network them. It provides start-ups with a starter kit, helps to raise the financial resources for the first employee training courses and offers support with organizational problems.

The funding initiative Nightlines Deutschland e. V. is registered as a foundation based in Heidelberg.
